Local MP Maria Miller MP was pleased to show her support for the Disability Information Day, which was held in The Malls in Basingstoke town centre on 13 September.
The annual awareness day is organised by the Basingstoke and District Disability Forum (BDDF). As in previous years, many charities and other local organisations had stalls in Castle Square, to offer advice and information, and highlight what they do and the services they provide.
Maria said: “There are so many charities and voluntary organisations in Basingstoke who do fantastic work in providing advice, assistance and activities for disabled people and their carers, and this event was a great way of raising awareness of who they are and what they do. It was also good to see our local police attending, as well as representatives from JobCentre Plus and Hampshire County Council. There was great support for the event from people who came specifically, or were working or shopping in town.”
“The BDDF does a fantastic job in bringing these organisations together and, more generally, in signposting disabled people and their carers, to make sure they can access the help they need. I am very proud to be a Patron of the BDDF.”
