Local MP Maria Miller has met up with volunteers who organise Community Food Link at the United Reform Church, with Basingstoke town centre Councillor Arun Mummalaneni.
Maria said, “Community Food Link successfully helps reduce food waste from supermarkets and other food producers from going to incineration and landfill by making it available to local people who might be struggling with food costs for a wide variety of reasons. Working out of a number of hubs across the town Community Food Link sits alongside existing support which includes the local Foodbank, but offers more informal support and to a wider range of people.”
Arun said, “I was pleased to meet Community Food Link. I volunteer for Inspero every week helping with home deliveries of food to people who cannot get to the shops, and we deliver Community Food Link produce. I am proud that one of the real strengths of our community is the network of volunteer groups offering a helping hand to those in need.”
