Basingstoke MP Maria Miller is calling for local filmmakers to enter Parliament’s prestigious annual ‘Film the House’ competition.
‘Film the House’ was originally set up as a fun way to educate Parliamentarians and young people about the importance of the creative industries to the UK economy and highlight the importance of intellectual property rights for creators. It is now one of Parliament’s largest competitions, supported by industry sponsors including Warner Bros Entertainment, Disney and Sky, as well as organisations such as the British Film Institute.
The competition offers the opportunity to put local filmmakers in direct contact with the movers and shakers of the film industry. Three of the six categories for the 2019 competition are specifically for young people under 16.
Maria said: “This competition is a great opportunity for local amateur filmmakers to showcase their originality and talent. I would urge anyone in Basingstoke with ability and ambition in this area to get involved. Pick up a camera – even the one on your phone – and start filming.”
More information on how to apply for the competition and the criteria for entry can be found at www.filmthehouse.co.uk. The closing date for entries is 19 December 2019.
